Death & Psychedelics
January 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
About this Event
There are many things in this life that really force us to examine our own mortality and the nature of our own existence, yet few do so with the soul-riveting tenacity of both death and psychedelics. Rarely do we look down the tunnel of our own inner workings until we are either approaching our own demise, or being firmly held in the grips of a psychedelic meltdown. Why is it that we are able to gain so much insight into our own mortality in the entheogenic experience? Why is it that near-death experiences seem to be so closely related to a peak psychedelic experience? What is this mystical connection between these alkaloids and the deepest and most overlooked parts of our psyche?
Join Mary and Joël Brierre on a journey into the realms beyond our own, into the shadowy and misunderstood world of Death. We as a society are now accepting that certain entheogens may offer great benefit for end-of-life patients, but how much deeper does it go? For millennia, ancient cultures had full spiritual practices revolving around the death process, it was seen as a time of great transition for an individual and they were able to leave this existence in the sacred manner from which they lived. Now, with this resurgence of entheogenic use and especially temporary ego dissolving alkaloids such as 5-MeO-DMT, we have a chance to explore what is on the other side, thus allowing a deeper understanding of the transition process; what is left when there is a complete substation of self?

He assists individuals through pre- and post-psychedelic integration using a program he derived from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
Mary Brierre’s passion for end-of-life care began at the age of 12, where she would volunteer her summers being of service in care facilities for the elderly. The calling to become a death doula came with the passing of her grandfather, where she found herself effortlessly slipping into a state of service. Mary quickly dove in with both feet, becoming a certified death doula, and, soon after, volunteering her time in hospice. Mary has a mission: to rebrand death. Through training other death doulas, offering grief education, and sharing The Anam Cara Podcast, Mary is rebranding death by normalizing it.
