Psychedelic Access with Jesse Gould & Sam Chapman [ONLINE]
September 6 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Please Join PPS in welcoming Jesse Gould, founder and president of Heroic Hearts Project, a nonprofit organization that connects military veterans to ayahuasca retreats and other psychedelic-based treatment options. Jesse will share his own journey as a veteran and how he came to found Heroic Hearts.
By any outside metric, it is clear that the veteran community is going through a mental health crisis, with record levels of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), addiction, and suicide. The veteran rates of suicide are possibly the most troubling with more veterans dying by their own hand than in combat — by a factor of at least 10.
Although the exact number is hard to nail down through the available data, it is clear that veterans are committing suicide at a much higher rate than the general population, with some estimates as high as 20 suicides every day. The picture is bleak.
We will also hear from Sam Chapman campaign manager for Yes on 109. Sam will brief us on how obtaining access to these medicines could impact the lives of people suffering in and out of the military. There are tools that try and help, but we all know that our current pharmaceuticals and treatment options simply don’t work for enough people. University research institutions around the country have found a new treatment, psilocybin therapy, that has an excellent safety record that gets results. As a community, we have an important opportunity to expand treatment options and provide new opportunities for those suffering from depression, anxiety, and addiction here in Oregon.
Jenny Hansen will also join us from the Heroic Hearts Ambassador program, she we tell us what we can do to help this worthy cause to connect veterans with much needed healing.
PPS is a volunteer supported organization. We suggest a donation of $5 to help cover the cost of the event and to support future events (no one turned away). Your participation is appreciated.
